11/10/2007 - Phoenix, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Trying to win three races on the same weekend, Kyle Busch won round two capturing Saturday afternoon's Arizona.Travel 200 Busch Series race at the Phoenix International Raceway. On Friday, he won the Craftsman Truck Series event, also at PIR, and on Sunday Busch will go for a third win in the Nextel Cup event.
The No.5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet crossed the finish line 0.326 seconds ahead of Matt Kenseth. The victory was Busch's fourth of the season and 11th of his Busch career.
"To go out winning a race that's pretty special," said Busch, who raced for the last time in the Busch Series for Hendrick Motorsports."These guys worked their hearts out."
Pole winner Clint Bowyer saw the green flag and immediately took control of the race. He was still the leader on lap 22 when NASCAR "novice" and three- time IndyCar Series champion Sam Hornish Jr. got loose and slammed the wall to bring out a caution flag.
Early on the man on the move was Busch. Busch charged from fourth on the starting grid and took over the race lead on lap 30 getting around Bowyer. Also working through the pack was local favorite J.J. Yeley, who started 18th and cracked the top-10.
Bowyer continued to slide backwards as Kasey Kahne also got by the pole winner before lap 40.
A round of pit stops by the leaders left the field split as Greg Biffle led a group that stayed out on the track. Busch, who did make a stop, found himself in 12th place with Kahne even further back in 15th place.
But the aggressive Busch took his Chevy down to the bottom of the track and began passing cars at an amazing pace. By lap 60 Busch passed Carl Edwards for sixth.
Biffle, on older tires, could only hold off the cars with newer tires for so long. First Denny Hamlin, then Kenseth went around him. And Busch, who was faster than both of them, slid into third before lap 70. It wasn't long before Busch was back in the lead.
At the mid-point, Busch held a 0.831-second lead over Kenseth. Lap 125 and he was still the leader, but it was Bowyer chasing him, not Kenseth after the pole sitter made the pass for second place.
A spin and crash by Brian Vickers, with help from A.J. Allmendinger, brought out a caution flag with 68 laps to go but none of the leaders chose to pit.
Four laps later another crash collected Biffle, Steve Wallace, and Jamie McMurray. It caused a red flag to clean up all the debris.
When they restarted, it was all Busch and Bowyer. With 60 laps to go they already had built a one-second margin on Kenseth. But it was erased when Brad Keselowski spun 2007 IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti, who made a perfect 360-degree turn and kept on going.
After the green flag dropped to restart the race, Kenseth's No.17 Ford suddenly sprang to life. He passed Bowyer with ease and quickly caught Busch. But passing the younger brother of Kurt Busch is not an easy task.
Kenseth got side-by-side with Busch at lap 166, but Busch held him off using the high line. Debris on lap 170 slowed the race and set up a 25-lap shootout to the checkered flag. More caution flags, this one for Mike Bliss left Busch and Kenseth with just 15 laps to decide the winner.
Busch got a great restart and immediately jumped to a three length lead. But Kenseth hung tough and Bowyer was also within shouting distance. The gap was half-a-second with 10 laps remaining. And that's where it stayed, despite another red flag and a green-white-checker finish. Just like Friday night, Busch was best on the final laps and he took his second win of the weekend.
RCR teammates Bowyer, Scott Wimmer and Harvick completed the top-five.
The final race of the 2007 Busch Series season is set for Saturday afternoon, November 17 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
